Gulfarium

25 Aug

Today, we drove the short distance to visit Gulfarium in Fort Walton Beach, FL.  It was a pleasant field trip and offered much more to see than I expected.  I assumed that the Bottle-Nosed Dolphins would be the top attraction, but we also attended a fabulous Sea Lion show and a third multi-animal show.  (As a mom, I truly appreciated the covered areas for the crowds.)

Gulfarium also had several exhibits such as penguins, alligators, lemon and nurse sharks, tortoises, sting rays, tropical birds and a river otter that was in hiding!  My oldest loved the touch pool exhibit.  She wanted to pick up one of the horseshoe crabs but talked herself out of it.

Gulfarium took a guest photo of us before we entered the main building.  Once the shows were over and we had seen the outdoor exhibits, we walked near the gift shop to view our family photo.  Unfortunately, our little guy had been cut out of the photo!  Oh, no.  To my delight, the Gulfarium staff immediately directed us to the front of the building, took our photo again, handed us the digital card to give to the waiting employee at the photo counter and she processed the new image!  In a matter of minutes, we walked away with a 5×7 and three magnets.

We spent three hours at Gulfarium.  The show times were staggered perfectly so we could walk from the Dolphin show onto the Sea Lion and multi-species shows.  Cool refreshments were offered outside and I noticed restrooms in multiple places.  The facility was clean and the staff was friendly.  A big thumbs-up for an educational family excursion.
