Book Discovery

21 Jul

Sometimes, I run across a children’s book that touches my heart in a unique way.  Six Is So Much Less Than Seven, by Ronald Himler, caught my attention in the library because my middle daughter is almost seven years old and because the watercolor illustrations of the elderly man and his cats are captivating.  When I added the book to my checkout bag, I purposefully did not read the dust jacket.  I didn’t want to know the premise of the story before I read it aloud to my daughters.  And I’m so glad I didn’t!

Six Is So Much Less Than Seven is sweet and simple.  I love cats so I appreciate Mr. Himler’s precise illustrations of their poses and movements in the story.  I adore how he depicted the cats following the man as he completes his daily chores.  Any cat owner can relate to the feline companionship!  I don’t want to spoil the end of the story and how it made me catch my breath a bit, so find a copy of this charming and endearing book for yourself.  I may add it to our personal collection soon!
